Announcing 2007-2008 Season
Whether you enjoy classical, contemporary Christian, gospel, jazz or Latin music the Howard Performing Art Center is Southwest Michigan's finest place for an exceptional concert experience-a concert hall designed with beautiful music in mind.

Join us as we kick off the season with Opening Night 2007! This free concert is our gift to the community and will once again feature Lake Effect Jazz from St. Joseph, Mich. They will be joined by Quintessence Jazz from South Bend, Ind.

This year we're pleased to welcome some of the very best performers in a wide variety of musical styles. At the start of the season get a taste of Latin America as Juan Carlos Rodriguez, with his powerful tenor voice, presents an Evening of Latin Music. Travel to Europe with pianist Leon Bates and the Borealis Wind Quintet as they collaborate together for an evening celebrating French music. And once again the Fischoff Chamber Music Competition Winner will perform-this year the Prima Trio from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music. Andrews University Professor of Music Carla Trynchuk, violin, will perform with guest cellist Stephen Framil. And, "One of the finest flutists of our time," Eugenia Zukerman, will present a solo recital. Rounding out our classical offerings, the Southwest Michigan Symphony Orchestra will perform Beethoven's 7th Symphony. Stephen Zork, baritone and Andrews University Professor of Music, will also appear with the Symphony.

If jazz is your genre of choice, this year's schedule features vocalist Sophie Milman from Toronto, Canada. She will perform jazz standards accompanied by her four-piece band. And for some holiday cheer, you won't want to miss Manhattan Transfer!

We're also delighted to host Christian music powerhouses and Grammy award-winning groups Take 6 and Point of Grace. In addition, pastor and gospel singer Wintley Phipps will present an evening of inspirational favorites, including a selection of hymns and spirituals. Fernando Ortega, accompanied by a string quartet, will share his poetry in song, proclaiming his love and gratitude to God.

In addition the Andrews University Department of Music has a full concert schedule with performances by the Symphony Orchestra, Wind Symphony, Sinfonietta, University Singers, University Chorale, Men's Chorus and Canta Bella. Check out our events page for a full listing of performances.

We look forward to seeing you at the Howard Performing Arts Center this season; your home for an exceptional concert experience.
